the EXCITING thing unveiled ?

Hello everyone,

so I posted on last Thursday about the mysteries covered stall in MCC ( Guys, something exciting is hidden here! ) , remember this:

I went today to check out what was the fuss about and ofcourse I tweeted about it once I saw it, it turned out to be ...

a BRAND NEW VOLKSWAGEN JETTA

new 2011 Jetta starting from 7,350 O.R
 TADAA!
new 2011 jetta
so there you go folks, I was kind of expecting some free traveling tickets lol .. I'm not quite sure though who is sponsoring this "competition" or "draw", Oman air perhaps? . or is it just for showing off the brand new car ?. it says in the big banner up there it costs starting from 7,350 O.R. well I wouldn't mind winning a free new car would you?

so that was the "exciting" thing hidden there people,  join the disappointed pack.

Cheers,
M

Guys, something exciting is hidden here!

Picture of the stall in MCC

This is a quick blog post, so as you can see from the picture above, there is something hidden inside the reserved space right in the middle of  the open area (near the food court) in the mall. I actually took the picture yesterday at Muscat City Center and tweeted about it.
There are photos on the stand and plasma screens as well. Some speculated that it's going to be about some vacationing tickets competition of some sort or a store. There is also a number where you can send your guess at, text your guess to 90455 .. maybe you can win something or get into a draw if you got it right?

I don't know for sure but I'm quite curious to know what's hidden in there. Well tomorrow the 20th of May is supposed to be the revealing date. let's wait and see and I will blog about it once I find out what it is.

Cheers,

M

what happens to paper waste in Oman??

Have you ever wondered what happens to the piles of  old newspapers and magazines you have at your home when you don't need them anymore? If you are living in Oman you probably would know that we don't have official recycling facilities for paper waste, let alone plastic and glass waste. Green initiatives are rare in this part of the world but good intentions that need guidance are still there!

I came across a facebook page called Muscat Waste Paper Collection. It is a green initiative founded by Zohena Dhanani providing a solution for paper waste in Oman from old newspapers, magazines and books by collecting them then exporting to Dubai or other parts of the world where recycling happens as it was explained for me when I asked them what happens to the paper after being collected. Their mission is "Save paper today for a Better future Tommorrow"

Here is how it works :
  1. Tell your neighbors, friends, colleagues about what to collect, big loads are preferable.
  2. Collect whatever paper waste you can get and you can call them so they pick up what you gathered from different  locations like : houses, offices, supermarkets and malls.
See? it's that easy! just gather big loads of paper and call!

Contacts :
In order to get further information about the intiative you can call : 95921486 (zohena), for collecting the paper loads call:  97072911 (Nadir). Or you can e-mail them on : alrihamgp@gmail.com . Or simply log on to their FaceBook page : Muscat Waste Paper Collection.

Please spread the word amongst the people you know, we need more green initiatives!

UPDATES :
I found out there are other green initiatives similar to Muscat waste paper collection, so I thought of adding it in the same post as a reference , please if you have other sources, send me the contacts and info about it.

Another green initiative was : Project GreenWeek as FAITH a fellow blogger mentioned. According to their page it was founded in the Fall of 2010 by students of SQU during the period from 5th to 9th of March 2011. Too bad it wasn't extended so I hope this initiative extends it's period and expands it's coverage to outside SQU as well. Maybe if a decent number of people requested it, it might happen? check out their FaceBook page from here : Project GreenWeek

HUGE changes in Oman! New Royal Decrees!

As I think most of you already know by now the HUGE changes happened in the cabinet reshuffle ? or let's say in appointing and reappointing ministers and ministries in the past 3 hours ?!

here are the Royal Decrees from the Oman News Agency website : Royal Decrees( English version, النسخة العربية )

this is the video when the news were boradcasted on Oman TV in Arabic

this is really HUGE, some of the names the protesters raised have been removed! Macki and the entire MONE is removed! Also a dozen of new names have surfed up to be ministers. many of which people actually think they are a good change and can make a difference! I personally don't have solid background information from the new names that have emerged.

big changes keep coming, let's hope it's for the best of Oman!

Flat Tyre and PinkBerry?

I bet you've already guessed the connection from the title between a flat tyre and PinkBerry?
just to change the mood from the recent posts that I have blogged, I decided to blog about something happy, well almost.
You probably saw the ads in the paper about opening a new branch of PinkBerry in Muscat City Center , Oman.-located near Chili's restaurant &  the food court- and people are already going crazy over it, including me. I mean who wouldn't? it's Food!

I was so excited so I was speeding and got the flat tyre. faj3ana* much?
here's the flat tyre pic
a flat tyre.. SERIOUSLY!
and it was all worth it:
 TADAAA
a sensational passion-fruit frozen yoghurt from pinkberry

updated shots: 8th of March 2011

sorry you might have to reposition your head to see the picture ! my bad I was too excited to eat than take a properly-human-like pix! maybe next time I'm going I'll take better pictures. promise.

ok moment of truth, the two things are not connected by any sort and happened on two different days, I was just goofing around in finding a silly story to bring up pinkberry ! lol and regarding the flat tyre, it happened by accident from a nail on the street, so it has nothing to do with me speeding up. I was actually taking a turn when it happened. I was lucky because it happened just a minute away from home so I was safe and nothing serious happened.

Cheers,
M

*faj3ana: is a word used to describe how overly impressed & excited a person can be with something for the first time, usually used with food.

Unemployment Allowance & the 50 K Jobs!

Last night on "Hona Oman" show on Oman TV, they interviewed the minister of manpower shaykh: Abdullah Al Bakri to discuss the latest Royal orders on which 150 R.O / month will be entitled for unemployed citizens and the 50 thousand job opportunity as well.
I tweeted most of the points yesterday as it was aired on TV.

  1. The 50 k Jobs offers will be both provided by the public & private sectors in the sultanate
  2. The 50 k unemployed citizens already registered in the manpower directories until 27th of Feb 2011 will have the priority 4 immediate employment.
  3. Those who updated their profiles recently will have the priority chances to be called for job interviews first.
job-seekers are expected to update their profiles in the ministry of manpower records every 3 months
  4. Those who registered for a manpower ID after 27th of Feb. Will be entitled with the 150 R.O/month but will have to wait until the first 50 K jobs are occupied.
  5. Each citizen will have 3 job offers in total on which he/she will be offered in a period of 15 days-1month between each offer. He/she will get the 150 R.O/month until finishing the process.

in case the citizen declined the 3 offers, he will no longer be considered a jobseeker and won't be entitled with the 150 R.O continuation.
  6. the Minimum wage 200 R.O is implemented starting 1st of March 2011 and those not applying it should be reported 2 manpower .
  7. citizens SHOULD NOT sign any contract bellow the minimum wage & must report that to the ministry.

These were the basic points on which they were discussed.

Important information for job-seekers

the After protests effects in Oman!

Sohar Globe roundabout where protests started

So it has been really crazy, what's going on in the protests in Oman especially in Sohar which was the main focus for the media circus. After the violence and vandalism drama that happened by some of the protesters, immediate responses were taken by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos.

I was live-tweeting the royal orders and decrees as they were announced on Oman TV and you can also follow the updates on twitter by following the #Oman and #Sohar hashtags. Also you can check Muscat Mutterings blog for the protests coverage as well as Dhofari Gucci blog . In the meanwhile I'll repost my previous tweets here and translate them.

  1. A committee will be formed to agree on terms of expanding the Majlis Al Shura authority
  2. Royal Orders: providing jobs for 50 thousand Omani citizens.
  3. royal orders to the minister of Diwan of royal courts to go listen to the protesters requirements and demands
  4. taking the necessary steps for The State Audit Institution to have it's role increased.
  5. Royal orders: distributing a monthly salary amount of 150 R.O for jobseekers registered in manpower until employment
  6. there will be a number of ministers from members of the Majlis A'Shura with effect from the next term
  7. Release of all protesters that have been jailed,& ONA was informed of 1 death during the recent events in Sohar
that's from what I have tweeted and translated to english. I beleive there are more detailed decrees and orders that you can check them out on the Oman News Agency website

Egyptian Revolution sense of humor

There have been many jokes, pranks and stories after the Egyptian Revolution of 2011. Many have called it the humorous revolution for what the people of Egypt have carried out through the protests and their sense of humor in doing so. In this post I'll present several videos on which were done by Egyptians during the revolution and I thought they were hilarious.

The first video was done by an Egyptian blogger and movie maker called Ashraf Hamdy (blog). His latest videos was about a recently famous internet activist called Wael Ghonim. (twitter). After his release from  prison and getting interviewed in a numerous number of channels he was accused of many things which was summarized in this video in a sarcastic way. The original video is in Arabic but I managed to find an English subtitled version.

(Arabic version ) الحقيقة وراء وائل غنيم

The truth behind Wael Ghonim (English subtitled version )

Another video that I would like to share was a clip from a TV report done by BBC Arabic news channel (website, Twitter, YouTube, Facebook). It was a summary of what happened during the Revolution and the humorous parts of it. Unfortunately I couldn't find the video on their official Youtube channel, so the video was uploaded several times online by random people. I'm still searching for a subtitled version though.

So what do you think? I personally salute every Egyptian that went through these rough times and was able to make a joke out of it. I can't imagine how hard it must have been to fight claiming your rights and seeking your freedom.

This post will be updated with new video clips when I get more. please don't hesitate to share with me any video you think is worth watching.

What democracy means to "Gaddafi"!!

Do you remember this special dude in the photo?

I just came across a really funny youtube video of  This dude who is : Muammar Al-Gaddafi , the de facto leader of Libya  and thought of sharing it with you guyz.

it was part of an interview conducted by Aljazeera channel and I'm not really sure when it was aired exactly, so here's the video :

I didn't find a subtitled version of the video so I'll translate what he generally said in it.

He basically was playing an Arabic language genius trying to explain what the word democracy really means. It means -he says- "demo-karasy" , demo as in dohama2 = meaning idiots and Karasy means chairs in Arabic. so According to him, the elected presidents out of democratic elections are basically idiots elected to sit on their chairs!

yes it sounds really stupid and it's one of the many "great" things this dude says! just youtube him!

quick update, I got this reply on twitter after I posted my blog which really is true and I couldn't agree more about it since Gaddafi himself was on the "chair" of power for over 40 years! the comment was via @3abdulaziz :
There's no-one who exemplifies his definition than him, he has been in power (in kursy) for more than 40 years!

Updates ( Family, Design and Politics? )

It's been a while since I last published a blog post, but I promised myself to try post more often in the near future. My last blog post "Quran Stand" was supposed to be updated since forever, I will try to catch up with several updates in this blog post so bare with me people I know you can handle it!.

First of all, the Quran Stand picture I posted was in a very special day to my family and myself. we decided to surprise our parents with a small party in an attempt to honor and celebrate their presence, wisdom and blessings upon us throughout the years. It's easy these days to get absorbed and swallowed up with what's happening around us and how life can be so hectic trying to get ourselves through the day. It wasn't tied up to a special date or anything like a "mothers/fathers day" but what was important is having the chance to remind ourselves on how much we appreciate and love our parents.
As I come from a really big family "mashallah" it was important to include the kids - nephew's and nieces- to be part of this celebration to teach them as they grow up how family is important and of course; the respect of the elderly!

The party had many segments, competitions, kids games, gifts and even speeches! it was more like a festival than a small party! oh yeah we take our parties very seriously. that's how my family role
At the end I swear it was all worth it as I saw the expressions of joy and satisfaction on my parent's faces! I've never seen my dad that emotional before and it was all worth it! and these my friends were the highlights of that event.

Second of all, I'd like to mention that my blog's banner is really really, REALLY old. I desperately need to update it as it doesn't represent my blog here and sounds more commercial-like than a normal blog! Yes I know I need to redesign it as soon as I find time to change it with the blog's theme. Just try to ignore it in the meanwhile until I get off my lazy bottom and change it!.

Last but not least, I think you are all aware of what's going on in the Middle-east in the past couple of weeks. Media with all it's forms and ways everywhere is so occupied with what's happening in Egypt right now after Tunisia and many Arab countries who are on their way in making history!.I've never underestimated the importance and significance of what's happening these days but I gotta say I recently went through a twitter hard discussion/misunderstanding on what's occupying our youth's attention at the moment. I was too absorbed defending my own female ego to realize that media can distract us from seeing the bigger picture and what's really important. That will need a whole new blog post to keep up with such important events happening around.

until my next blog post, be yourself but don't get too carried away with your own ego to realize what's right from wrong.

cheers,

M

Letter of complaint to Apple!!!

So yeah I was kind of frustrated about the iTunes store and with the banking problems so I decided to send a letter of complaint to Apple!.The Only problem is I have no idea where to send it or where to deliver it to exactly since there are so many different ways for customer support around the world , except for Oman! XD
I might be exaggerating? but I seriously didn’t know where to post a complaint regarding the customer support in my country?! Hope anybody out there can help enlighten me and pull me out of the darkness for that matter lol !

So without further babbles here’s the letter or “email” of complaint:

iPhone 4 is not released in the markets YET people!

WARNING : this post might be boring for those who are "not so tech-freaks", although I didn't go through the technical details as much as I'd love to, but you've been pre-warned!!

well I'm a bit late but the reason I'm writing this post is because of the people that keep babbling about iPhone 4 and how it's already out and some stupid rumors that I'd like to address here.

I actually send a long SMS to my friends about this

" iPhone 4 is not released in the markets yet, you can pre-order it from Apple and it'll be released around 23 of this month (actually it's the 24th XD) if my memory serves me, and the prices of iPhone 4 will be almost like iPhone 3Gs so the previous generations prices will go down a bit.
it's impossible and there is no freaking way that the iPhone4 is  sold in stores right now! and the even more ridiculous rumor about it being sold with 90 O.R ( equivalent to $234 !!! ) is so freaking NOT TRUE!, who spread this rumor must have been day dreaming or is cracked headed apparently"

First of all, iPhone 4 was announced about in the WWDC 2010 conference from Apple, you can check about it from the official Apple website,  YouTube clips about Apple official video for the iPhone 4 or just google about it! The pre-ordering proccess started in June15 and it's going to be available starting of June 24 in 5 countries : the U.S,
U.K, Germany, France and Japan! then it will be sold in another 18 countries EXCLUDING the Arab countries in July . Probably the distribution of the iPhone 4 will reach the Arab countries in August! .. sources : Apple & iPhone islam (arabic website)

Ranting about local khaleeji love novels

well yesterday a dear friend of mine send me an email about a novel that's written by a local and is widely popular over the Internet. The type of novels I'm talking about are written in local dialects that is quite different from the "queen" Arabic language if I may say..

When I was in high school and in my first years in college like any other kid that is going through puberty and their hormones are quite messed up I used to be addicted to this kind of novels! (yes they seemed so much fun back in the days of immaturity!)

I actually remember staying up all night to finish some of the chapters that can reach up to like 30 or even more of useless mumbles of romantic crap!

All the characters in these novels have super natural god given beauty that is charming and jaw dropping.. NOBODY looks normal in these stories! and the very boring long time wasting description of each character like nobody else is more perfect!
I mean WTF !
like teenagers need more depressing reasons to hate their lives ! XD

So unbelievably time wasting and I totally regret getting addicted to such crap that did nothing but has zip-zero-zilch contribution in my language and abolutely has no connection whatsoever to the real world we are living in!

OK now am relieved ! I got it out of my system!
lol

have a good day people!

Maria

is it worth it ??

work never ends! ..

Our families gave us the lie we all hear when we were kids and we were actually programmed that when we work so hard, we'll get the ultimate satisfaction at the end!. I don't know when this end is going to be!. I've been hearing this for like the past 15 years of my life! and I'm still wondering if that's true or just nonsense . coz all I remember is working hard through out all the years !

Actually I wonder if it's worth it ?! .. I forgot when was the last time that I actually enjoyed what I'm doing rather than considering it a big burden that needs to be finished before the due time! ..

the TRUTH!

I just simply hate them!!!

I actually gave myself the permission to do so! .. I just wonder if there is one shred of humanity left in their souls, just one tiny bit of common sense of what's right and wrong! to make them tell the WHOLE TRUTH just plain and simple! .. which is kind of ironic because telling it won't affect them by any sort but will affect me hugely!
not in the emotional sense but in REAL LIFE !

some of you might wonder what the heck I'm babbling about here! and who are these people am hating and what's the deal behind all of that!!

well,, all of that doesn't matter as it's not going to make any difference in the point that am trying to deliver here!..

sometimes you just want to let it out of your system and this is me trying to do so ..

TO EVERYBODY out there trying to conceal the truth from somebody,, hiding it will make it worse !! trust me on that!

like someone wise once said " truth may hurt,, but it cures"

have an honest open realistic life folks! and keep it real XD

cheers,

M

getting lost with all the social networking sites??!

facebook, myspace, friendster, twitter, hi5 and the list goes on and on!!

this recent huge storm with social networks that makes your head spin just by mentioning it!

nowadays the youth think it's a necessity to have such accounts on these network to "connect with people"

suddenly I feel it's like a nokia ad XD ,,

Don't you think it's ironic because the tag " social network " indicates a social life in a " cyber space!" which is preventing us from the real deal?

well I was geeky enough to google the word " social network" and see what will I get for a start !

here is what I got from our saviour Wikipedia

A social network is a "Social structure" made of nodes (which are generally individuals or organizations) that are tied by one or more specific types of interdependency, such as friendship, kinship, financial exchange, dislike, sexual relationships, or relationships of beliefs, knowledge or prestige.
source http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_network

hmm well that's right it's a social structure! .. which drives me to think,, are we really having a social life based on these networks!

I mean have you ever thought about it in a way that online social networks ruins our traditional meaning of networking and takes a HUGE portion of our time sometimes for nothing?..

don't get me wrong, I'm myself involoved in these networks as much as any of you or even more!
but the amount of time it takes to update, write , chat and even play games with your"supposed" friends on these networks is really something to think about..
some of you will consider my post is cliché written,, which is quite right to a certain extent!
perhaps I just need to go out more and breath some fresh air to seek some refreshment ...

waiting for anybody's response ..
if any!

cheers ..

Maria,,
